I had found Mountain world Treks in Internet and emailed them to ask about Everest base camp trek. I got quick and useful response from the company owner Mr Saligram. After the few emails I am impressed with saligram and we (I and My wife) had decided to go to with Mountain world Treks for our Everest trip and some sightseeing around Kathmandu valley.
Mr Saligram was waiting us at Kathmandu airport to welcome us and we drive to Hotel and stayed overnight. Next day, after breakfast Saligram came to meet us with city guide and trekking guide. After our whole trip briefing we did full day sightseeing tour with excellent city guide Prakash. It was great day trip with lots of interesting story.
Next day early breakfast and we drive to airport with our trekking guide Mr Dipesh and started our adventure trip to Everest base camp Trek with a 40minutes flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, an elevation of 2860 meters. Lukla has verities of the shops, possible to buy any last minute shopping for trekking if needs any more items for trekking and climbing ahead. The trek started with the gently climb up the mountainside of the left bank of Dudh Koshi River, which provide a lovely view for most of the walking. There was well-worn path with lots of steps leading both upwards and down by the time you reached the destination Place called Phakding. It was almost 200meters lower than Lukla. Scenic flight to Lukla, short day trekking, excellent tea house with WIFI and delicious food, was great day.
The journey from Phakding to onwards wasn’t hard, following the Dudh Koshi river valley bellow and above all around surrounded by rhododendron and pine forest. There are several small villages along the way to stop for some foods or drinks. After Village Jorsale there was suspension bridge to cross and after this, trek went surprisingly difficult, continually upwards. Thanks to Guide Dipes for his great support on the way to Up to Namche. Namche bazzar, the land of the Sherpa people located at 3340meters above sea level. After the difficulty of the last day we had rest day at Namche. well, Our guide take us for small hiking up to the national park office, from where we had seen beautiful mountain views include everest. it was great, we just stayed their couple of hours and visit some place around. After small hiking, we went back to teahouse, and rest had good hot shower. Food was great in the tea house.
After the breakfast we started our another trekking day to Tangboche. The path started with a very steep and tiring walk up out of the village but not for long. Tangboche can be seen in the, as well as summit of Everest after about 20minutes walking from the last stop. After an hour or two levels easy trekking you have to walk downhill losing much of the altitude you gained over the last day. We cross the suspension bridge again to cross the river and walk tough two hours uphill to reach Tangboche Village located at an altitude of 3867meters. In the village, there is Buddhist monastery, the largest in the Khumbu region.
And great view of the Everest and Mt Amadablam. The Trek from Tangboche to dingboche started off gently downhill but shortly after crossing the river uphill again. Spent the most of the day walking along the river valley .Overall it is not hard trekking day but bit longer with the journey taking up to 6 hours. Met some other people who were also suffering from mild headaches and shortness of breath, I thought that was only me who was suffering from altitude. The village of Dingboche was located in Chukhung valley an altitude of 4400 meters. We stayed 2 overnight at this place to acclimatize our body. Some trekkers choose to spend the rest day hanging the village and some of the trekkers they do day hiking trip to nearest hill from Dingboche for acclimatization. We did some hike and Mr Dipes help us for everything, he is great guide.
Trek to Labuche started with a steep climb up the edge of the hill providing the great view down into the Chukhung valley with Island peak. it took us about 5 hours to reach the Labuche. I found bit tough day than other last days, may be because of altitude. Compared to places like Dingboche, Tangboche, Namche there was not really much. The village Labuche is quite exposed and the high winds can cause a lot of dost to blow around the village.
Next day after about 3 hours walking, we reach Gorakshep which was our last destination to stay overnight. There is not much clear path and you have to walk over the lose rocks which add to the difficulty. Yes, our guide helped us for everything when we find hard. Gorakshep is located at base of the peak called Kalapattar an altitude of 5180meters above sea level. Our dream nearly going to be true, so put our bag packs in our romm had some meal and countinue to Everest base Camp. This is worst path I ever walked and bloddy altitude is always on my head. After 3 hours walking, we reach to EVEREST BASE CAMP. oh yes, feel I m standing on the top of world. It was freezing cold and windy, so we could not stay longer after some photograph we return to Gorakshep and stayed overnight. But altitude doesn’t let me sleep.
Next morning we went to hike Kalapatter and it tooks 2 hours to summit for us. Kalapattar was excellent viewpoint. After snaping few photos we back down to Teahouse had Breakfast and countinue trek down to Pheriche and Namche and Lukla and Kathmandu.
It was an awesome adventure trip. Thanks to Mountain world treks and Dipesh again. Dipes you are the MAN. Hope to see you soon one day.
