One of the questions, we most commonly get asked from clients who are planning a trek to Everest Base Camp is what do I need to pack. In reply, here’s a comprehensive trekking gear list for the trek, together with some helpful information and advice.
Always better to pack light but need to make sure you have enough gear to survive the colder temperatures and the 12 days of trekking duration up to 5500m.
While in Kathmandu, you need to unpack your bag and check the gear list carefully and repack before heading to Everest base camp. If in case you don’t have some necessary gears you may buy in Kathmandu too.
It is important to pack layers for your Everest Base Camp trek. Wear lightweight clothing that is breathable. Dress in layers so you can peel them off when you get hot, and add them as it gets cold. Three layers are perfect for trekking:
Weather can change rapidly. One minute you can be working up a sweat as you climb uphill and then as the temperature drops, suddenly you will be freezing in the cold.
Make sure to have tested all of your gear before trekking to Base Camp. Don’t wear new boots on the trek, make sure that they are worked in. Do several hikes at home before trekking to Everest. Boots should be worn in and comfortable.
Also, check all batteries in headlamps and cameras before your flight to Lukla. Charging stations are limited and costly on the way to the Everest base camp trek, so make sure your devices are fully charged and don’t forget to carry a power bank.
